Tile FAQs: advice from our experts
A few helpful answers from our Yorkshire tile experts, from choosing your first tile to planning delivery. If your question is not covered, tell us a little about your project — we are happy to help.
Choosing Porcelanosa and other tiles for your home
Can I use any tile on a floor or in a shower?
The right choice depends on where the tile is going. Check the manufacturer’s stated use for the exact product and finish: a wall tile is not automatically suitable for a floor, and a bathroom photograph does not confirm shower-floor or outdoor suitability. Tell us about your project and we can help you find the right specification and slip information.
What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic?
Both offer plenty of design choice, but the practical properties vary by product. Start with the look you love, then check the manufacturer’s suitability and technical information for your room. Porcelain does not automatically mean outdoor use, and ceramic wall tiles are not automatically suitable for floors. Our tile experts can help you check your shortlist.
Are the sizes exact?
A size in a product name may be nominal. Use the published technical dimensions for setting out and discuss grout joints, substrates and movement joints with your installer. If exact dimensions are not available, ask us to check before ordering.
Can I see a sample?
Samples are available for selected products. If a sample button appears on your chosen tile, you can use it to see the options; otherwise, ask our team about viewing or sample availability. A cut sample may show only part of a varied pattern. Our sample guide explains what to look for.
Will the tiles look exactly like the photographs?
Screens, lighting and photography affect colour. Some designs intentionally vary between faces, and production batches can vary. Check a physical sample where possible and ask about batch availability when adding to an earlier order.
Boxes, prices and planning
Is the price per box or per square metre?
Tiles are ordered in full boxes. Where verified box coverage is available, the product page shows a price per m² for comparison alongside the box price. The bag quantity is the number of boxes. Samples, grout and adhesive are separate products sold in the units shown on their pages.
How does the tile calculator work?
Enter your measured area and choose an allowance for cuts. Where verified data is available, the calculator uses your selected variant’s published coverage and rounds up to full boxes. Check the size and coverage again if you change the variant. If the calculator is unavailable or you would like a second look at your quantities, our team can help.
How much extra should I order?
Cutting, the layout and future spares all affect the allowance. Agree it with your installer for your room and pattern. The calculator's allowance is adjustable; it does not replace an accurate site measurement or an installation plan. See our tile buying guide.
How do the 3D studio and room photo preview work?
Eligible tiles link to the visualisers from the product page. They help you compare a design in a room; colour, scale and layout remain visual guides. Product specifications, measurements and full-box quantities should be checked before ordering. Availability depends on the data and images available for the selected tile.
Can you help with grout and adhesive?
Of course. Explore our grout and tile adhesive and tell us what you are planning. We can help you find the product guidance; your installer should confirm the right fixing system, preparation and any waterproofing for your tile and surface.
Delivery, orders and returns
How much is delivery?
Standard tile delivery is £50 per order to England. As soon as your order is placed, our team starts processing it and aims to have your tiles with you within 7–10 days. This rate applies regardless of order value. Add your products to the bag and enter your postcode to see the options before paying. For other destinations, our team can check the arrangements with you. See our delivery guide.
Can I collect my order?
You are welcome to ask us about collection from HomeFit UK in Pocklington. We will agree the arrangements and let you know when your order is ready, so please wait for that confirmation before travelling.
How do I track or change an order?
Use the order-status link in your confirmation email. Contact us promptly with your order number if you need help or want to request a change. A change may no longer be possible after dispatch; your cancellation rights are explained in our returns policy.
Can I return tiles or leftover boxes?
Please get in touch and we will talk through the options. For consumer online purchases, the statutory cancellation period is generally 14 days from delivery, followed by 14 days to send goods back after notifying us. Returns of surplus boxes outside those rights need to be agreed with our team. Read the returns policy before arranging transport.
Will I have to pay to return tiles?
Contact our team to discuss return or collection options and any applicable charges. Arrangements can vary with the tile, quantity and transport needed, particularly for tiles imported from Spain. For a statutory cancellation, you are responsible for direct return costs only where the required cost information was given before purchase. Importing a standard tile from Spain does not by itself remove your statutory rights. See our returns guide and full policy.
What if something arrives damaged or incorrect?
Contact us promptly with your order number, a description and photographs where possible. Keep packaging and labels while we investigate, and do not install affected products. Your statutory rights for faulty or misdescribed goods remain in place.
